Whew! The past one week was eventful for me. Since entering into my CS undergrad at Anna, I have never thought about a career in testing, but now i think i may like it too. Reason, the last one week had been spent testing my final year project. It’s nice to identify and remove bugs.

And meanwhile in the Caribbean, a guy who was supposed to be a victim of stress turned out to be a victim of conspiracy. Ireland and Bangladesh sneaked through to the next round and the arch rivals are on their way back home.. Damn, we missed a Indo-Pak game !

Well, well, what a weekend it had been ! First came the shocking Saturday where the subcontinental teams had a mixed day with 2 giants (!!) losing and a minnow winning their league encounters in the WC. And a Sunday with grief. RIP, Bob !

Saturday’s games made me happy and dejected at the same time because Irish won and mera Bharat mahaan did not. I am eating my own words aka my predictions about Team India. So, will Bermuda do to India what Ireland did to Pakistan, or will the boys bounce back ? Greg Chappell deserves some more years of life ! Come on India !

I could not help posting about Ireland’s debut WC match yesterday. Well, it was a nice way to start a WC debut and to tie against Zimbabwe means a lot for the minnows. But for the once powerful (i m referring to the Flower Brothers era) Zimbabwe, this would have a demoralising effect.. If only Ireland beat Pakistan tomorrow (?!!?! ), the latter can very well come back home.. But the chances are too remote for that to happen, but i wud love it !! Pray for an Irish victory !!!

I find ICC rankings pretty amusing many a time. For instance, yesterday 8th ranked Windies won their WC opener against 4th ranked Pakistan and according to the statistics in The Hindu, the success rate of WI against Pak is nearly 75%. Well, statistics apart, it is a great start to the World Cup with some gud bowling and fighting knocks. But i m disappointed with the size of the ground, Sabina Park. Batsmen can clear the ground with ease and i m sure Pak wud be cursing their fate that they missed Afridi in this match. Men like Dhoni, Gayle, Kemp, Hussey who are real hard-hitters of the ball can score heavily in grounds like these. Expect more crackers in the WC !!

Project is going pretty good at the moment and hopefully should finish it off soon, mostly within a week. Still review dates have not been announced. I am working hard to complete it beforehand. Know what, its 1 AM now on 14th and the Windies have started their bowling well, not as pathetic as Chanderpaul’s batting… Pity i cud not watch the match because of the project work…

And as for the title, i wud prefer the third (yawn..)

Google scheduled my telephonic interview today but it did not take place. This is the second such instance and I am fed up with this tamasha. I am thinking about saying NO if they contact me again !!

Today me and Srini had an argument — Are we capable of designing a programming language that can become popular like , say, Java or Python ? When i said we cant, Srini counter argued that Indian geeks are good enough to do it… For a minute, i could not respond and i just stopped the arguments…. Well, i dunno wat to conclude. Are we gud enough ??

Today i got a mail from Google, saying that my interview is scheduled on 12th March at 1630 hrs.. I duly agreed :-)

Meanwhile, i ve started coding for fyp. The modules to be completed seems gigantic not in size, but in the complexity involved. After all, it took months for us to understand the mobility issues of mobile clients. Now i ve to code them in 10-15 days ! God save me !

In the last 10 years, one day cricket has changed much into a game of batsmen due to new rules, poor pitches and small grounds. To withstand this and continue to be batsmen’s nightmare is something very few bowlers have achieved. More recently, in 2006, a match in Johannesburg totalled 872 runs and caused a uproar among experts about the quality of oneday pitches. All these are stories of the past…

March 5, 2007. Warm up matches start for World Cup 2007. Numero Uno South Africa met Ireland. What a stunning match it was !!!

Few highlights of the match are :

  • No boundaries were hit in the entire game.
  • SA were at one stage, 91/8 , and eventually managed 192 and lost their 10th wicket in the 300th ball of the innings.
  • Ireland made 157 in 44 overs.

To the best of my knowledge (and I am pretty gud in these stats) , there has been NO match in which there were 0 boundaries !! I wonder whether to make fun of SA and their No.1 ranking or to praise Ireland’s efforts that almost toppled SA, but for one guy, Hall.  The pitiable fact is that this match is, ofcourse, not an official ODI.

Its just a week after Second review and here comes the bomb.. Third Review in the 3rd week of March. Now, i ve to stop my rest abruptly and start coding; once again. Oh My God !!

Meanwhile, the Google story went thus : After initial delays, the HR guy scheduled my interview on 23rd Feb. I said No and asked for a date after Feb 28. He scheduled it exactly on Feb 28 and again I asked for a change. The HR guy neither did reply nor did i got a call on Feb 28, but a mail on March 1 saying that the interview was rescheduled to 1st March 2.00 PM. That I got this mail at 7.00 PM on March 1 is a different matter [ Yahoo! mail :-) ] I did get a call at that time but i was writing that stupid evs test.. Now i have sent a mail asking him to schedule it anytime now! In the meantime, some of my friends got selected for the second round itself..

Assessments over and they are not as gud as i expected them to be.. As usual, COM was tuf, NP was crap, ETHICS was decent and that stupid evs ( it doesnt deserve CAPS ) was obviously , wat else, stupid !

Still, its a much awaited break from everything… I m planning to start my project work after a few days of rest… Until then, gotta read ProgPearls :-)
